Barcelona: Vegetarian City in the Making

Everything sustainable, organic, natural and ecological is becoming more popular everyday with consumers. This may be part of the
reason Barcelona, declaring itself as a “veggie friendly” city, has decided to implement steps to help visitors to find exciting plant-based meal options. There is even talk of a “BCNvegPoint”; an area reserved for vegan and vegetarian businesses. Wow! But why the increase in vegetarians? Is it some kind of new “hipster” trend or is there something more to it?

From the Capital of Canada, to the Capital of Mobile Technology

From the Capital of Canada, to the Capital of Mobile Technology. My experience at the Mobile World Congress 2016.

A year ago, an event such as the Mobile World Congress seemed to me as an unreachable event only to be touched by the elite of the technology and business world. A year ago this event was half way across the world from me. A year ago, I could only imagine what it would be like to be surrounded by the world’s most innovative and progressive minds.

Coaching Column: Paperless But Not Powerless

Column – by Sam Mednicklogo_500px

Hi Sam,

I’m embarking on my sixth year living in Barcelona and I’m still struggling with visa issues. Until now, I’ve managed to find part-time jobs teaching English, handing out flyers, doing event promotions, bar tending, waitressing (under the table)—you name it, I’ve done it.

It was fine at the beginning, but now that I want to set up a life here, I’d like a stable job with a steady income. I’ve found a way to get a visa, but it’s probably going to take another year until it’s sorted. In the meantime, I’m going a little crazy with these odd jobs and don’t want to wait a year to start making more money. I know you can’t speed up the visa process, but any thoughts as to how I can make a good living even if I’m not yet legal, would be greatly appreciated!

Creating Connections in a Transient City

Dear Sam,

I’m finding it exceptionally hard to make and keep friends in this city. For 10 years, I’ve created strong relationships only to see people leave one by one. Now I’m missing my friends and finding it difficult to meet new ones, scared to put myself out there for fear that they’re going to leave as well. How can I create lasting connections in Barcelona?

Sincerely,
